Pick-up and Drop-off Outside Business Hours

All pick-ups and drop-offs carried out during the company’s business hours, between 08:00 and 19:59, are free of charge.

Outside these hours, a fee of €35 per service applies. This fee covers staffing costs and, when necessary, airport parking charges.

To request a pick-up or drop-off outside business hours, it is mandatory to contact the local office in advance in order to receive the relevant instructions.

Note: We do not guarantee pick-up or drop-off services outside business hours when we do not have the customer’s correct phone number or email address, or the booking is made on the same day.

Recommendation: If you have a booking outside business hours, please contact the local office in advance to arrange the vehicle pick-up process.

Airport Shuttle Bus

Vehicles are delivered at our offices. At offices located at airports, we provide a free shuttle service between the terminal and our office for the convenience of our customers.

Cristiano Ronaldo Airport – Funchal, Madeira (FNC)

At Madeira Airport, the meeting point is outside, in the passenger pick-up area, next to the café “Coffee, Food and Go.”

Our shuttle van is branded FunchalDrive and operates frequently at the terminal during business hours.


João Paulo II Airport – Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores (PDL)


At Ponta Delgada Airport, the meeting point is outside. Upon leaving the terminal, walk to the right-hand side towards Parking Lot No. 5.

Our shuttle van is branded FunchalDrive and travels to the airport frequently during business hours.


Gran Canaria Airport (LPA)

To find our courtesy shuttle bus, go to the second floor (Departures) and exit the terminal through Exit 4 / Gate 4.

Pick-up and Drop-off

Vehicles must be picked up and returned at the designated offices, according to your reservation.

At offices located at airports, we provide a mini-shuttle service to facilitate your transfer. Offices outside the airport perimeter do not offer shuttle service.

The hotel delivery and pick-up service is subject to a fee. It must be requested in advance and requires confirmation from FunchalDrive.

Hotels

At the time of rental, please wait for a company representative at the hotel reception and have your contact details available.

To ensure a smooth process, we recommend contacting the local team the day before the vehicle pick-up.

Flight Changes and Delays

If your flight is changed, please contact the local office to inform us of the changes and ensure that your reservation is maintained.

In the event of a flight delay, it is mandatory to notify FunchalDrive. If the delay is not communicated within 2 hours of the scheduled vehicle pick-up time, FunchalDrive will consider the reservation as a no-show and the reserved vehicle will be released.

If you arrive at a different time than originally scheduled, you must request the shuttle service directly from the local office via WhatsApp or phone call.

Return at a Different Location

All vehicles must be returned to the same office where they were picked up.

If you wish to return the vehicle to a different office, you must inform us at the time of pick-up.

This service is subject to an additional fee, which varies depending on the office:

  • Funchal Airport ↔ Funchal City Centre: €20
Rental Extension

Any extension of a rental must be requested at least 24 hours in advance and is subject to availability and FunchalDrive’s rates.

All extensions will be carried out in accordance with the current Price List at the time of the request.

It is also required to sign the extension document and make the corresponding payment.

Late Return

The rental ends at the time indicated by the customer at the time of booking and stipulated in the rental agreement.

In the event of a late return or abandonment of the vehicle, a fee will be charged for the additional period:

  • Up to a maximum of 4 hours: according to the specific rates published in the current Price List.
  • After this period, the full daily rental rate will apply, plus a €50 daily surcharge, until the vehicle is recovered by the company.

Any recovery costs and the value of any damages caused will also be charged.

Reservation Confirmation

If you have not received your reservation confirmation, please check your spam folder.

If the issue persists, send an email to info@funchaldrive.com, including:

  • The name under which the reservation was made
  • The reservation dates
Reservation Changes

If your reservation was made directly through FunchalDrive and you need to make changes, please send an email to info@funchaldrive.com.

If your reservation was made through a tour operator or a price comparison website, you must contact that partner directly to make any changes.

Reservation Cancellation

If your reservation was made directly with FunchalDrive, you must request the cancellation by sending an email to info@funchaldrive.com at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled pick-up time, in order to receive a 75% refund of the total reservation amount.

Cancellations made less than 24 hours in advance or in the event of a no-show are not eligible for any refund, to cover operational costs and lost revenue.

If your reservation was made through a tour operator or a price comparison website, you must contact that partner directly to proceed with the cancellation.

Vehicle Category Upgrade

If you wish to upgrade to a higher vehicle category than originally booked, you must request it at the FunchalDrive counter.
At that time, you will be informed of the price and availability of the desired vehicle.

Note: In certain locations, such as Madeira Island, it is highly recommended to choose more powerful vehicles and, in some cases, automatic transmission, especially for drivers accustomed to automatic cars, due to the steep hills and challenging roads.

Brand/Model Guarantee

Our vehicles are organized by categories, with each category including different brands and models.

It is not possible to guarantee a specific model, as availability depends on the fleet at the time of rental.

Assistance and Emergencies

If the vehicle becomes immobilized due to an accident or breakdown, call roadside assistance using the number provided inside the vehicle on a windshield sticker.

Towing and Assistance Costs

Costs vary depending on the distance traveled and the time of service (daytime or nighttime).

Fuel Incidents

If you refuel with the wrong type of fuel, contact assistance before starting the vehicle.

Any damage or costs resulting from this incident will be fully borne by the customer, even if you have zero-deductible insurance, including the cost of the fuel that was in the vehicle at the time of pick-up.

Attention Note:
In Portugal and Spain:

  • Gasoline 98 → green pump
  • Diesel → black or yellow pump
Damages

If your rental includes a damage deductible, FunchalDrive will charge for any damage that occurs to the vehicle during your rental, regardless of its extent or who is at fault. The vehicle is under your full responsibility throughout the rental period.

To ensure accurate charging, all vehicles are inspected before the rental begins. Any existing damage is recorded in our system, including detailed information and photographs.

Additionally, the staff member preparing the contract will take photos of the entire vehicle and send them to you by email. These photos are attached to your contract in our system. It is highly recommended that customers also take detailed photos and videos before starting the rental.

If you were charged for damages during your rental, please contact customer support at info@funchaldrive.com for information and documentation regarding the charge.

Customers with the Service Gold Complete insurance or the Full Package Zero Deductible rate do not pay for bodywork damages or accident-related costs.

Recommendation: In locations such as Madeira Island, it is highly recommended to choose a rental with Service Gold Complete insurance without deductible, due to the high frequency of damages caused by mountain roads and small parking spaces.

Note: None of our insurance plans or full packages cover:

  • Lost keys
  • Sidewall tire punctures
  • Fuel mistakes
  • Mechanical damage due to improper driving
  • Damages or accidents caused by driver negligence
Vehicle Cleaning

The vehicle is delivered clean; however, cleaning is not included in the rental rate.

An optional basic cleaning service is available for €12.50, which is not mandatory. If this service is not selected, the vehicle must be returned clean, in the same condition as when it was rented.

If the vehicle is returned dirty without having contracted the cleaning service, a double fee of €25 will be charged.

Smoking inside the vehicle, excessive dirt, or stains on the seats are not covered by the basic cleaning service and will be charged separately.

Fuel

Our fuel policies follow the “full to full” or “same to same” model.

Customers may choose to purchase fuel at the start of the rental, avoiding the need to refuel on the last day.

In some cases, especially when the vehicle is returned outside of business hours, this option may be mandatory. The fuel price will be equal to the pump price.

If the customer does not purchase fuel in advance, the vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as at the start of the rental.

Otherwise, the company will charge for the missing fuel, plus a refueling fee.
